He will now face Grigor Dimitrov for a place in the final after the Bulgarian beat Hubert Hurkacz 6-1 4-6 6-4. Seventh seed Tsitsipas is yet to drop a set this week in disposing of Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime, Germany's Alexander Zverev and now Khachanov. He had far too much variety for Khachanov in the opening set, using his all-court game and accurate serving to great effect. He then moved a break ahead in the second set before Khachanov hit a brief purple patch to get back on terms.

Hurkacz wins thriller with Rublev to take Shanghai title
  + stars: | 2023-10-15 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
I had a match point and Andrey hit an amazing serve and then he had a match point and then I had some match points." Rublev broke Hurkacz's serve early in the second set but it was in the final set where the match really came to life. Rublev steadied himself to save match point and hold serve, and in the tiebreak he snatched early control to take a 3-0 lead. Two aces from the Polish player kept him in touch and at 5-6 down he served another ace to save match point. Both players broke serve again in quick succession to level the tiebreak at 8-8, but it was Hurkacz who had the last word and broke Rublev's serve again to win the title.

Alcaraz to face Djokovic for Cincinnati title
  + stars: | 2023-08-20 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +4 min
Hurkacz, who narrowly lost to Alcaraz in the quarters of the Canadian Open, raced out to a 3-0 lead as Alcaraz mixed dazzling shotmaking with some head-scratching errors in the entertaining first set. Hurkacz captured the opener when he broke Alcaraz for a second time and had match point in the second set while returning serve and leading 5-4 but misfired on a forehand. Alcaraz drew Hurkacz to the net with a drop shot and then fired a sensational cross court winner to set up the tiebreak. A perfectly executed volley on his first match point delivered Alcaraz into his eighth final of the year and despite spending more than 10 hours on the court this week, he said he feels fresh. Djokovic, who won the Masters 1000 tournament in 2018 and 2020, has played Alcaraz three times.

Djokovic calls for earlier Centre Court starts
  + stars: | 2023-07-10 | by ( Martyn Herman | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
LONDON, July 10 (Reuters) - Wimbledon should start matches earlier on Centre Court to avoid players falling foul of the strict 11pm curfew, defending champion Novak Djokovic said on Monday after needing two days two beat Hubert Hurkacz in the fourth round. For the second match in succession the 36-yrear-old Djokovic faced a race against the clock to finish when he stepped on court at around 8.30pm on Sunday to face Hurkacz. Play starts at 1pm on Court One and 11am on the outside courts at the All England Club with the late Centre Court start partly to accommodate those with hospitality tickets. Djokovic said that walking on to Centre Court not knowing whether there is time to finish added to the stress. "Andrey Rublev is a fantastic player who's got one of the best forehands in the game," Djokovic said.

Djokovic leads despite Hurkacz ace barrage
  + stars: | 2023-07-09 | by ( Martyn Herman | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
Hurkacz rocketed down 23 aces including one clocked at 141mph -- the fastest serve of the tournament so far. Djokovic will sleep a lot easier than he might have done if the 17th seed Hurkacz had taken the opening set after two aces saw him to 6-3 in the tiebreak. Djokovic won both his points on serve to close the gap and then returned a Hurkacz howitzer and the Pole could only roll a forehand into the net. This time Hurkacz's spinning volley crept over and Djokovic almost fell over the net as he missed the put-away. Another tiebreak arrived and Hurkacz won a stunning baseline rally to save a set point but two points later he sent a forehand out to hand Djokovic a two-set lead.
